Ceramic Studies (JSOCS)
1972
The first meeting of the JSOCS took place at the Tokyo
Kaikan Prunier in Chiyoda-ku, gathering five ceramic
specialists: KOYAMA Fujio, MIKAMI Tsugio, NAKAGAWA Sensaku,
HAYASHIYA Seizo, and HASEBE Gakuji.
A meeting was convened at Mayuyama & Co. to form the
establishment committee. KOYAMA Fujio, SAITO Kikutaro,
FUJIOKA Ryoichi, NAKAGAWA Sensaku, ISIGURO Kojiro, OKUDA
Naoshige, OKAZAKI Takashi, NARASAKI Shoichi, FUKAI Shinji,
SATO Masahiko, HASEBE Gakuji, YABE Yoshiaki, and MAYUYAMA
Yasuhiko were present.
A meeting of the Establishment Committee was held at the
Chuo Koronsha in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, where the society's name
(JSOCS), management policy, annual membership fees, founder
members, and other related details were determined
internally.
In the name of the representatives of the Society's
establishment committee (KOYAMA Fujio, MIKAMI Tsugio,
MITSUOKA Tadanari, FUJIOKA Ryoichi, NARASAKI Shoichi, OKUDA
Naoshige, HAYASIYA Seizo, SATO Masahiko and HASEBE Gakuji),
they presented "The Establishment of the JSOCS" and
initiated the process for membership applications.
1973
The inaugural meeting was held at the National Education
Centre. Corporate Special Members: 66, Standard
Members: 638, Non-resident Members: 3
KOYAMA Fujio was elected the first Standing Committee
Chairperson and established the office at Mayuyama & Co.,
Ltd., Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
The first convention was held in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture.
1974
The Society’s office moved to the Zayuho
Kankokai(座右宝刊行会 ) in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
The 1st scholarly journal, The TOYO TOJI, was
launched.
1975
The 1st Standing Committee Chairperson, KOYAMA Fujio, has
passed away and MIKAMI Tsugio was elected as the 2nd
Standing Committee Chairperson.
1979
The 1st issue of the Bulletin of the JSOCS, the members'
newsletter, was published.
1982
The Society’s office relocated to the Center for Academic
Societies Japan in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.
The first research conference was held in association with
the exhibition of
"Chinese ceramics excavated in Japan" at the Tokyo
National Museum.
1983
The International Symposium on
"The Sunken Treasures of the Sinan Coast" was held.
Venue: Aichi Trade Center, co-organised by the Chunichi
Shimbun Co., Ltd.
1984
The Society’s office relocated to the Kasugashogaku Building
in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.
1985
Dr. Liu Xinyuan was invited to present a lecture as a
special project. Venue: Tokyo National Museum and Kyoto
University Rakuyu Kaikan, co-organised by the Toho Gakkai
(The Institute of Eastern Culture).
1987
YAMAZAKI Kazuo was elected as the 3rd Standing Committee
Chairperson.
1989
NARASAKI Shoichi was elected as the 4th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
1993
"The 20th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture of the JSCOS"
was held. Venue: Yurakucho Asahi Hall, Tokyo
"The 20th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture of the JSCOS"
was held. Venue: Osaka City Central Public Hall, Osaka
1995
HAYASHIYA Seizo was elected as the 5th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
1996
The Society’s office relocated to the Sanei Building in
Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
1997
"The 25th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture of the JSCOS"
was held. Venue: Yurakucho Asahi Hall, Tokyo
"The 25th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture of the JSCOS"
was held. Venue: Osaka City Central Public Hall, Osaka
2001
HASEBE Gakuji was elected as the 6th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
2002
"History of the Oriental Ceramic Traditions: The
Miscellany of the 30th Anniversary of Japan Society of
Oriental Ceramic Studies"
was published.
Launch of the website.
2005
ITO Ikutaro was elected as the 7th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
2009
TAKEUCHI Junichi was elected as the 8th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
2011
IMAI Atsushi was elected as the 9th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
2012
The Society’s office relocated to the building of the
Italian Cultural Institute in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
2013
OHASHI Koji was elected as the 10th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
2014
The Society’s office relocated to the Risona Kudan Building
in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
2019
ITO Yoshiaki was elected as the 11th Standing Committee
Chairperson.
2020
The 48th convention was cancelled due to the COVID-19
pandemic.
2021
The 2021 General Assembly was held online due to the
COVID-19 pandemic. Total number of members: 560
(Honorary Members: 1, Special Members: 15, Standard Members:
527, Non-resident Members: 17)
